1939 Cadillac 60 Special Staff Car

INTRODUCTION

As World War II approached the U.S. Army started purchasing Cadillacs to replace the older luxury staff cars. These Cadillacs were used for general officers and rarely painted olive drab. General George S. Patton used a 1939 Cadillac at the end of the War. He was involved in an accident with his 1939 Cadillac in December 1945 which resulted in his death 12 days later.

ENGINEERING CHARACTERISTICS


The 1939 Cadillac was equipped with a 346 cubic inch V8 engine. This engine was also used in the M5A1 light tank and the M26 light tank. It developed 140 hp. The transmission was a 3 speed synchromesh manual transmission. A 4 speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission was an option.
